When you’re just not feeling it.
Have you ever experienced being somewhere really beautiful, and you should be having a really good time? But you’re not.
There’s no reason for you not to be but inside your mind, or maybe your heart, you’re just not feeling it. In fact, you might be feeling miserable. You might be feeling isolated or lonely or consumed by worries.
This is something that I think happens more than people are willing to admit.
Despite all the beauty that comes into our lives, and the rich lives that many of us lead, there can be so much pain on the inside, and such a feeling of dislocation and separateness.
Sometimes we don’t even know what we feel separate from? Why am I feeling like this? Is there nothing else? Is there nothing else in life?
What happens is that we are so focused on the mind in our culture that we’ve forgotten about the spirit and the soul.
Sometimes our association for spirit and soul is religion, and a lot of us don’t want to go there. So we’re left with a void.
You can connect with your spirit and your soul directly. You can find spiritual organisations, teachers, and people who can help you without having to be in a religious setting or with a dogma that you don’t feel comfortable with.
When we live in a way that is not connected to the heart, connected to the soul, and connected to the spirit, it’s never going to feel fulfilling.
I think that the epidemic of depression, and to some extent anxiety that we know exists in Western culture, occurs because of this disconnect from the most essential part of who we are, the heart and soul.
I look forward to the time when it becomes normal to talk about the soul and the spirit and how to connect with them.
